Kumasi Technical University

Kumasi Technical University, originally called Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I.), has been educating students in several vocations since 1954. With the conversion to a Polytechnic in 1963, the Institute was able to expand its educational offerings to include technician diploma and sub-professional programs under the Ghana Education Service.

The Polytechnic was upgraded to the status of a tertiary institution with the passage of the Polytechnic Law, 1992 (PNDC L.321), with the goal of producing highly qualified workers in the fields of industry, commerce, science, and technology in order to spur innovation.
It was notable as one of Ghana’s most prestigious and exciting polytechnic institutions.

With the intention of providing higher education in engineering, applied arts, scientific technology related subjects, technical and vocational training, Kumasi Polytechnic was transformed into the present day Kumasi Technical University in 2016 under the Technical University Act 2016, (Act 922).
